Bibracte:This
city was the capital of the Eduens where the Gauls used to gather round
their chief Vercingetorix. It's 7 kms away, on the Mont Beuvray. There
you can visit the diggings of the museum dedicated to the celtic civilization,
one of the most beautiful museums of France, 1600 m² of exhibitions.
The center of archeological researches offers various workshops and the
possibility both to adults and children to make discoveries from April
to October.
Autun:
It
used to be called Augustodunum and was " Rome's sister".It's
20 kms away from St Léger. There you can see very well kept roman
ruins but also an impressive cathedral, a marvel of roman art.

castles and manors :
-The Chateau de Sully where the Marechal of Mac Mahon was born
( he was a French President).
-The Chateau of Couches, where Marguerite of Bourgogne lived.
-The Chateau of Monthelon, Ste Jeanne de Chantal's house: she founded
the religious order of the Visitation and was the grand mother of Madame
de Sévigné.

Beaune:
not
very far away in the middle of the vineyards of Burgundy, is famous for
its "archeodrom" ( a prehistorical museum) and the Hotel Dieu
created by Nicolas Rolin.
Le
Creusot : famous
for its iron industry and rich of many industrial buildings and industrial
artefacts which can be seen at the Chateau of La Verrerie,former crystal
factory of Queen Marie-Antoinette.
Not far away, in the town of Montceau, there is a Mine Museum.
Cast- iron and steel together with coal, have been for a long time, the
essential ressources of these towns of Saone et Loire.
Chateau
Chinon : The
Museum of clothes and the Septennat ( containing gifts offered to French
Presidents in power for seven years).
Vezelay,
Cluny, Nevers, Dijon, Saulieu:
all these
are neigbhouringtowns wich can be visited in one day or half a day and
are very prestigious places...
